Available for the first time online, CIPLAK is the debut feature film of director Khairil M Bahar, originally released in 2006 and shot with the
meager budget of RM10,000 (most of which was spent on buying the camera).
CIPLAK centers around Jo, a Malay student studying overseas who brings in pirated DVD's from Malaysia back to the UK to sell on the black market.
But when KL is hit with a nationwide piracy raid on his last day in the country Jo has to do whatever it takes in 24 hours or suffer the consequences.
Shot over numerous weekends in 3 months on miniDV, CIPLAK is an energetic exercise in guerilla no-budget filmmaking which led to an award for Best Alternative FIlm in the 2006 Anugerah Skrin Awards and made its international debut at the Boulder Asian Film Festival in the same year.
